Energy balance

Energy balance is a service provided during the detailed design phase of the project. The purpose is to create an understanding of the energy demand and consumption in the process plant.

Example of an Energy balance

Our expertise in energy balance

We prepare the energy balance during the detailed design phase of the project. In this phase, we list the process plant technologies such as machinery, components and instruments in an Excel template and register all installed utilities, including power supply, steam, cooling tower water, refrigeration, compressed air and chemicals. These are categorized according to the requirement specifications to provide an overview of the energy demands.

At a high level, the energy balance can advantageously be integrated into the mass balance to provide a simple overview of consumption. If a production schedule has been developed, precise energy consumption figures can be provided, which may serve as input for OpEx numbers. A complex and detailed energy balance with consumption data requires a separate document for larger process plants.

We use the energy balance in tender documents/specifications for utility systems, as well as for the main routing and cable trays in the utility section of the process plant.

The focus on green transition is driving increasing demands for accurate energy balances and tools for evaluating alternative energy supplies and best available technologies.
