CE marking
What is CE marking, how do you make sure that a production facility complies with CE marking, and how can Process Engineering help you with all of that? Read more about CE marking on this page and find further information of what you should do.
What is CE marking?
CE marking is an administrative marking that indicates conformity with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area. The CE mark indicates that the product may be sold freely in any part of the European Economic Ares, irrespective of its country of origin.
When a manufacturer obtains CE approval for a product, he declares and accepts liability that the product complies with all requirements of obtaining CE marking. Moreover, he guarantees that the product can be sold legally in the EU, EEA and EFTA countries as well as in Turkey.
This also applies to products that have been produced in third-party countries and are sold in the EEA or in Turkey.
CE marking and technical documentation (technical dossier) prior to commissioning of the plant
CE marking of a plant can be complex, because the work may involve older machines without a declaration of conformity or machinery installations where the end user has requested to integrate their own control concept. Often, there will also be non-independent deliveries of individual machines included. However, before a machinery or process plant may be put into operation, CE marking must be carried out, and a complete technical documentation (also known as a technical dossier) must be prepared for the entire installation.
It is the manufacturer’s responsibility to prepare the technical documentation (technical dossier). This documentation must demonstrate that the installation complies with the requirements of the directive(s) applicable to it. If the installation is subject to more than one directive (i.e., consists of multiple machines and systems that fall under different directives), the technical documentation must meet all applicable requirements.
The technical documentation (technical dossier) must include the following
Technical dossier is therefore a legally required documentation that demonstrates the machine or installation is safe to use. The dossier must include:
- User manual
- Drawings
- Control system deecsription and electrical installation
- Calcualtions
- Components/units
- Risk assessment
- Technical reports
- Installations
The technical documentation must be made available to the authorities upon request.

Let Process Engineering assist you with CE marking
We can carry out CE marking of your machinery or process plant and ensure that the technical documentation complies with legal requirements.
We assist in defining the scope of the task rationally to minimize time consumption and aim to simplify the documentation. We do this for individual machines, assemblies of machines, production lines, and factory sections.
At Process Engineering, we have a strong position when it comes to knowledge of directive requirements, as well as practical and rational execution of CE marking.
Based on experience, it is crucial to prepare the CE marking process during the design and procurement phases, so that relevant requirements are set for suppliers’ documentation and marking of individual deliveries.
