Stress-strain analysis
Stress-strain analysis is a technical assessment used to evaluate the mechanical stresses in piping systems, such as those found in power plants, chemical facilities, refineries, and district heating systems. These systems are often subject to the PED (Pressure Equipment Directive), meaning the differential pressure in the system exceeds 0.5 barg. At Process Engineering, we assist in preparing the full documentation related to equipment and pressure-bearing systems governed by the European Directive 2014/68/EU.
Our expertise in stress-strain analysis
Pipe stress analysis (also known as pipe stress calculation) is a crucial part of the design and maintenance process to ensure that the pipes can withstand the loads they are exposed to during operation. In our calculations, we consider:
- Thermal loads: Expansion and contraction of pipes due to temperature changes
- Mechanical loads: Pressure from fluids or gases inside the pipes
- External forces: The weight of the pipes themselves, supports, vibrations, earthquakes, or wind
- Movement in connected components: Pumps, valves, or vessels
We offer
Within stress-strain analysis, we offer a range of specific services covering design, analysis, and documentation. Our key services include:
- Design and modeling of piping systems
- Static and dynamic stress analysis
- Compliance with standards and codes (e.g., according to EN13480, ASME B31.3, and documentation for authorities and third-party inspections)
- Reporting and documentation (detailed reports such as stress maps, support lists, and critical points)
- Optimization and troubleshooting (existing piping systems, identifying overloads, support suggestions, component selection, leakage troubleshooting, vibration and component failure)
- Software-based analysis (Rohr2 and Caesar II)
Our team consists of highly specialized engineers with many years of experience in the design, analysis, and optimization of piping systems in complex industrial facilities. We combine in-depth technical knowledge with practical experience from projects in the energy sector, oil & gas, district heating, and process industries.
