Case story

Line Walk of Tank Facility

The customer, who ensures professional storage and handling of fuel, operates a large tank facility where fuel is delivered by ship, stored in tanks, and distributed to the Danish market by trucks. The facility is well-documented and subject to strict safety requirements, as they work with flammable and explosive liquids. In connection with a desire to create a more transparent structure for their documentation, Process Engineering was involved to carry out a line walk.

Process

A line walk involves inspecting the plant and following individual pipes to document instruments such as valves and pumps. The entire plant is documented in a P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagram). A P&ID is a key document that shows piping, valves, instruments, and the interconnections within a plant. To ensure that the documentation matches the actual installation, a physical walkthrough of the plant is carried out — this is called a line walk.

When operating a plant — and especially when changes need to be made — it is crucial to know in detail which components the plant consists of. This ensures that operations and modifications can be carried out in a planned and safe manner.

The project was executed by one of our engineers in close collaboration with the customer. The new documentation was prepared to meet the requirements of management and to support operators’ daily work related to operations and design changes.
