Case story
Energy mapping of cooling capacity in plant protein production
An international producer of plant-based ingredients faced significant challenges at their production facility. The issues were primarily related to the utility side, where the capacity for cooling water and hot water was insufficient. To address the problem, the plant had been temporarily expanded with a mobile diesel generator in a container solution for hot water production and a mobile chiller for cooling water.
Process Engineering was hired to manage technical project leadership and develop corrective solutions.

Process
The project was carried out by two engineers from our Energy & Renewables section and consisted of three steps:
- Energy mapping
- Investigating energy in the process
- Increasing capacity for cooling water and hot water
We maintained ongoing dialogue with the client to obtain accurate information about the facility. At the same time, we visited the site ourselves to see how the entire plant operated.
We began with an energy mapping of the entire process to gain an overview of the energy balance in the plant for both the boiler and chiller systems. This resulted in a modification of the connection from the existing chiller system to the cooling water tank, which provided better capacity utilization and stable operation.
Service and scope of the project
- Energy mapping
- Proposal for redesign of the regenerative circuit
- Tender material for capacity expansion of the chiller system
